Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to collect data on how traditional modes of
communication, preserve disseminate and conserve information on African
Indigenous Vegetables (AIVs). Data were collected through Focus Group
Discussion and a pre-tested questionnaire. This research on AIVs indicates that
they are highly valuable. However, this has not been disseminated to rural farmers
and consumers. This research findings revealed among other things that OraMedia can be utilized to disseminate scientific themes on AIVs. Hence, public
enlightenment campaign should be conducted for the inhabitants of the study
area. Also, qualitative awareness on the important of the African Indigenous
Vegetables should be encouraged while government on their part should grant
loan to interested farmers and encourage them to cultivate these vegetables in
commercial quantity.
