Abstract

The study examined the meaning, nature, forms, dimensions, determinants and managerial implication of organizational structure and its impacts on the
organisation. The review revealed that the dimension of organisation structure generally consists of complexity, formalization and centralization, and that strategy, size, culture, technology, environment, people and the like determine the organisation’s structure. Work specialization, departmentalization, chain of command, span of control, centralization, decentralization and formalization are key elements to be considered in designing an effective organizational structure. In conclusion, the structure of an organisation has far-reaching implication on the organisation and its workforce. Therefore, it was recommended among others that organisation should adopt a structure that enables it to maintain a competitive
advantage in the industry it operates.
